The DOVE Center has provided services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault for over 20 years and while this has made a tremendous difference for victims, it is not sufficient to just respond to crisis needs. With help we can reduce the amount of violence in our community and make a lasting impact on our youth for a better tomorrow. Youth today are growing up in an advanced age inundated with media and advertising values sold every second of the day via internet, television commercials, billboard signs, magazine covers, and through music and Hollywood. Our youth are learning about relationships, sex, body image, and violence from media sources that easily persuade viewers to tolerate and buy into messages that objectify women, normalize aggression, and romanticize violence (check out Killing Us Softly and Tough Guise video clips).
As a result of such a cultural climate, research over the past decade estimates 1 in 3 females and 1 in 4 males in UTAH have/will experience some form of abuse/assault; polling rates higher than the national average. The DOVE Center is committed to building a community of peace and with help we can unite to make it an even safer, healthier place for our families and our children.
Please join us on November 8th for a fundraising WOD that supports safe and healthy community. Any amount donated helps make a big difference! $35 or more includes a quality, specialty united-affiliates t-shirt or tank top. Donations can be made at any time online at DOVE Center. Shirt sizes can be emailed to info@dovecenter.org with your home affiliate box so we can be sure you get a shirt your size delivered post-WOD. Or we will also have a size sheet available at each box (please only provide your size once, either via email or on site).
